Review: UPDATE: 10/23/24—Website unavailable again! When you call customer support for VPS/Dedicated Server, there is an automated message stating they're aware of an issue affecting a limited customer base, preventing them from viewing their websites. Why don't they share this info with their techs? They have no idea. They finally admitted today that the problem is with the server. There is no ETA for resolution. ------ First I tried calling support - they did not resolve my issue. Furthermore, they wouldn't hang up so I could take the survey. I don't think people playing these sketchy games should have access to the backend of company websites. So I tried chat and had the pleasure of dealing with Bindhu. They were pleasant and solved the issue.

Review: I been a customer of Hostgator for over 10 years, they are the best in support until this year. Last year I purchased a cloud hosting that was advertised as unmetered disk space, after my resent renewal (where the price was doubled), it's drop to 200GB with no explanation. They have false advertisement to get new customers and shaft the old loyal customers. I am now seeking a new host provider!

Review: The support was excellent and on point! Mariyam Shabeeba did an amazing job really. My only dislike is that it is super easy to upgrade your hosting plan, while downgrading it (hatchling plan) is extremely complicated. In the future I will consider changing hosting if this is not addressed.

Review: Not the company it was 15 years ago! Another fine example of corporate enshittification. Hostgator was one of the best back in the 2000's. After they were bought by Newfold Digital, (formerly Endurance International Group (EIG), in 2012 everything began to change. Now, they're just another marginal, overpriced hosting company with bait-and-switch pricing, and the typical upsells all over their website. As an IT developer, I can say emphatically that their UI is simply a train wreck. The simplest things (like being able to show more than 10 items on a page) are not available. The whole system is heavily geared towards trying to funnel you into buying stuff you don't need - things that a neophyte would buy out of fear. Their "free" SSL is done via Let's Encrypt, which renews every 90 days, except if you have multiple add-on domains, you can count on a couple of them not renewing.

Review: Customer Service NIGHTMARE - We have been with HostGator for over 16 years as we built our business. With the recent tariffs, our business has been beaten down and we were looking to downsize our package as a plan to weather this situation. Contacting customer service means them not listening to you and continuing to up-sell someone who is telling you they are having problems and need to downgrade, not cancel...downgrade. This happened TWICE, 2 different reps. If you have to contact customer service...good luck...you will need it. Automated? AI?...whatever does not listen to what you say and pushes up-sell instead of solutions. Then ask something like can I ask why you are not paying for years of hosting today?...So someone tells you they are trying to survive and you push up-sell, I point out they did not read my question, because I told them we were downgrading...up-sell up-sell is all they care about..F your problems...They do not completely read your questions. Review: Yes, their servers are good but their prices ARE A SCAM! Beware of introductory prices on plans such as their "Baby Plan". They get you in the door with low prices, BUT OUCH on your renewal. I just got hit with a $596.00 renewal for their simple "Baby Hosting Plan". I reached out to them to tell I could not afford this preposterous price. Their response, "NO REFUNDS". The renewal is only a month in into a 3-year plan.

Review: HostGator blocked all outbound traffic on my server, which immediately broke Stripe payments on a live WooCommerce store. Their own support confirmed outbound connections were restricted. They ran a malware scan, the scan came back clean, and yet the outbound traffic remained blocked. Payments stayed completely down. After that, support claimed “everything is working fine” and asked me to provide steps to reproduce the issue locally — as if a server-level firewall blocking port 443 is something a customer can reproduce. This was not a WordPress or Stripe issue. It was a HostGator firewall restriction that they applied and then refused to properly address. If you run an ecommerce business, this is extremely dangerous. Zero ownership, zero urgency, and no understanding of basic server/network issues. Fourteen years of loyalty ended here. Migrating away.

Review: Ordered Codeguard which was supposed to provide backup to my 3 websites. After this I contacted Hostgator again to make sure Codguard was set up for all of my sites and they confirmed that it was. Weeks later I contacted them again only to find out that only one site was being backed up. Refused to give a free extension for the service despite my other sites being in jeopardy. Months ago, I had to go through 7 reps for Hostgator to do the simple act of adding a website to my hosting plan. I purposely did this through Hostgator's reps to get this done right. For days I just got a bunch of confusion and lost time. Hostgator USED TO be on their game. What's happened is that the company has exported their customer support service to 3rd world countries to save money. One time I actually heard chickens in the background.

Review: Took a month to migrate to a new server. I upgraded to a new server and it took over a month to finally get my website up and running correctly. I called and chatted with tech support dozens of times who were all very polite but could only do things to a certain point then they referred the matter to the back office support team with a 24 - 48 hour turnaround time. The techs advised me I would be receiving emails with detailed instructions as to the next steps but that never happened. I finally gave a not-so-good feedback after one of the chats and an escalation team member finally got the website migrated over. The techs were very nice and polite but the actual service was terrible. Nobody at HostGator seemed to be in a hurry to resolve my issues and it was always, "hurry up and wait". I know dealing with customers can be challenging but when you are in a SERVICE industry it is an unavoidable part of the deal.

Review: The pricing with HostGator is unbeatable. I have been using their service for a couple of years now. Their website builder is slow (in the cheapest plan I'm in) but functional. The problems started to arise once I had two websites under the same hosting account. One of their websites was constantly down because of the wrong DNS addresses. I've fixed the website a few times through their chat support, which I really think are humans are not bots. I appreciated that, but unfortunately, the problem kept coming back. Currently, I don't have any problems, but it's been only a couple of weeks since the last time I had to get in touch with their support to fix the website again.

Review: Hostgator used to be my goto since 2010, however it seems to have been purchased by some other hosting company and it has significantly increased the price of my BABY package product. Looking at the features included comparing to what I signed up for the legacy product, it is significantly decreased. All these changes and also price increased were done without any notification from Hostgator at all, I suddenly see my invoice increased by 100% after been with them for many years. When I contacted them last year, they did not offer any remediation last year, only this year I find time to finally repoint my domains and terminate the relationship. Overall I think the customer service is still good & chat is fast, however I do not like how prices were suddenly increased without warnings. Only when I contacted them for cancellation, they decided to give me a "special" price but that is already too late - I have already done the hard work of migrating out and it was just the last leg.

Review: Other than the item in the following review: The service today was excellent, as usual. Both on my initial phone call and on my follow-up chat. I called to correct a mistake. The chat agent did their job. BUT one part of their job was, as soon as I mentioned my mistake, to send me a very long text, prepared by lawyers (or marketing people acting like lawyers) telling me that they would stick me for $12.99 no matter what. -- Whoever at HostGator decided to do that made a serious mistake. If they wanted to warn me that it would cost me Thirteen Dollars to correct the mistake, that fine. But to send a lawyerly text so long that many of the lines scrolled right up and off the screen, leaving the second half, with its lawyer's text on the screen and leaving me the job of scrolling back up to discover that the point of the message was that they would charge me for my mistake. That's not a good way to get a good review.

As I said originally, I love the web service, just be careful with add-ons. 4 Star is all I can give now. Letter:2 After another call this morning, Michael from Blue Host (a division?) followed up with an email confirming my refund. I won't lie, I spent 4-5 hours getting the correct response. I have an email confirming my refund. I hope they do learn from my reviews on their site and here. Funny, the email was from Abuse@hostgator; the subject line seemed unusual. Once I receive my refund, I will provide an update. Letter 1: I was charged for the SEO Pro product after I had stopped auto-renewal. I have been on the phone several times. After talking with Samara and Stuart, I was told to expect an email with my cancellation for the product. It's been 10 days, and I still haven't received the email.

Review: I’ve been with HostGator for years, since starting my website in 2017. No issues until I had to upgrade my storage by getting a higher hosting plan. A representative spoke to me on the phone to help me upgrade my plan and told me I just need to migrate my data, and my site would be back to normal within 24 hours. That was Monday, and it’s now Sunday. My site completely crashed and I was on the phone or virtual chat with someone from HostGator every day of the week… for a total of 8 phone calls, 2 virtual chats, and speaking to 8 different people. I probably wasted at least 6 hours of my life, all of which I missed out on making money working (my site was also down so I lost money there, too). It became a part-time job to figure out why my site was down. Everyone had a different answer, and for 5 days straight I was promised my site would be up in “X hours” (2 hours, 8 hours, etc).

Review: Hostgator has always had problematic customer service, but last week they charged me $395 for a 3-year renewal and they did it without. warning me. When I complained, asked for a refund, and told them I was moving my domain elsewhere, they offered 15%, then 405, and then 85% discount. I said no. I did get a refund, BUT after I moved my domain elsewhere and set up the Hostgator account to refer all my email to the new host, everything worked fine until the official domain transfer occurred. Then my email failed. No one could email me and I could no longer email anyone. Upon investigation, I found that Hostgator had zeroed in out all my settings on Hostgator and had sent incorrect email settings to my new host. I cannot fix it because Hostgator zeroed out my access to the domain setting on their site. DO NOT TRUST THEM

Review: I had a very disappointing experience with this hosting provider. A few years ago, I accidentally moved my domain to their platform. Since then—almost two years now—I have been trying to transfer my domain to another provider, but without success. Every time I contact support, they send me a link asking me to submit my information and say they will “work on it.” Since the beginning of this year alone, I have filled out that form many times, but nothing has progressed. There is no real follow-up and no solution. Because of this poor support and lack of action, I am at risk of losing a domain that I have been using for more than 6 years, which is extremely important to me. This situation has caused me a lot of stress and frustration. Based on my experience, I would never recommend this provider (HostGator) to anyone.

Review: I closed by business and requested pro-rated refund for the remaining services that I auto-pay annually and have for>5 years. I was told that this would be done withing 7-10 business days, that was 11/13/25. They refunded the site lock but have not on the hosting nor Google Workspace. I have called 5x and been on hold for > 40' per call and get told the same thing and again, no refund. CHoose a different hosying service. ALso had to call every 3 months to get my SSL updated or my site was not working,hence a huge reason for closing my business, the site was down and not functioning multiple times.

Review: We've used HostGator for 19 years and experienced excellent service for the first 10 or 12 years. The last several years have not been as reliable. We had 2 months of problems and interrupted service after a server migration. Recently, we have asked for help with continuing issues multiple times without resolution, and been scheduled service phone calls that never came. The customer service technicians are courteous and do try to help, but there is no follow up after the situation is not resolved. I hate to leave a bad review, since we have had many reliable years of service, but it seems that now everything is on auto pilot and if you have problems you are on your own; disappointing.

Review: Generally speaking, this website hosting service is very good. However, the quality of customer support is inconsistent, which negatively affects the company’s reputation. On December 25, I contacted customer support (Case ID: I-23690192). The representative created a temporary file and told me the issue was resolved, but said I needed to wait at least four hours for the system to update. The next day, my web developer checked the issue and confirmed that it had not been resolved at all. The support made up a temp file to fooled me. I then contacted customer support again (Case ID: I-23696782). This representative was excellent and resolved the issue within a few minutes. His professionalism restored my confidence in this hosting service. Regarding customer support, I recommend allowing users to update or revise their feedback within a certain period (for example, one week) after a support case is closed.

Review: I paid over 2K for Hostgator Pro Services to rewrite my web page in wordpress. They still haven't done what I asked and requested verbally and in writing. Worse, I've been bounced around to different designers and they undo what I've already had fixed or add their own spin then tell me to open a change ticket to have it fixed! I expected to be assigned one designer until my site is approved by myself and published. They also call at random times to review the changes. Whatever happened to scheduling an appt?! I'm busy and can't necessarily take a call whenever y'all feel like it. How hard is it to duplicate the style of an old website and then update the content?! I still don't have my new webpages published and now have to pay 100 per month to TRY to get what I paid for. I'm EXTREMELY unhappy with the service and considering just moving to godaddy or another service. I put in a date of service of 9/17 close to when I paid.

Review: We didn't want to continue service but after we got email about auto-renewal we forgot about it until getting our credit card bill. They would not cancel and refund the charge - said their policy is if you don't tell them within 15 days BEFORE the auto-renewal date, then you get charged and there is NO refund per their policy. There was no mention of this in the auto-renewal email - that you would be charged after that and that there would be no refund possible. After talking some more with the nice person manning their chat service, they contacted their billing administration and they did eventually offer to give us a partial refund - but only for the last 2 years of the three years of hosting they had billed us for, that would have been AFTER the domain registration expired. I'm still not happy, as I still had to pay for a full year of hosting for a web site I don't want. I think the policy is bad.

A long time ago it was around 14 dollars and they never informed me. The baby plan is now around 30 dollars. Review: It took over 3 WEEKS to get my email working again after someone got into the sever & installed malware. I run a business & this affected us, cost us money and lots of stress. I had to call everyday sometimes multiple times a day then, I finally demanded to speak with a manager who eventually got it fixed. I have to say this has been the worst business experience of my life and I've been in business 30 years. I have never had a worse experience dealing with a company trying to get something resolved. They kept telling me, oh, it'll be fixing twenty four hours.Then, it wasn't then I'd call then they'd tell me another excuse and say I needed to do something else. Then, they wanted me to remove or to change server settings. I said, how do I know how to do that? I am not an IT person this is your job my email's through you. Beware, not a good customer experience at all. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE.

Review: one of the popular hosting companies and they are ok s long as you pay your bills on time and they are good to you which is fair right. I had a dedicated server with them initially they give you a good rate if you pay up front for the three years and when that expires your bill doubles. I decided to downgrade to a shared hosting and told them that I want to become month to month customer I knew it was more expensive but I needed time to back up my ten sites and load xfer to a shared hosting within the same provider. I spoke with support offshore I think from Philippines after I hung up the phone the next morning the dedicated server was decommissioned and all sites were deleted from it. I called back again to told them that I need to server to backup my sites by the way I paid them for a month and I still had 3 weeks.

Review: I tried to migrate over to them. Their plans and cost are good. My problems were with email. At first, I had a lot of problems receiving email. Chat tech support was always quick, polite and the agents seemed knowledgeable. First I was told that DNS propagation takes time and to wait. Then it was my MX records and DKIM records that were messed up but they would fix them. When that didn't work, the next agent told me the same thing but he would fix it. Well, after 2 days, it seemed I was finally getting my email. Great or so I thought. I finally tried to send email when I was receiving. Every email got bounced back. The next agent tried to fix things and finally said the problem would have to be escalated to server support. He said I would be contacted by them. I get an email with an escalated ticket number which says they are working on it. 24 hours later I try sending email, no fix. I chat again. I'm told they are working on it. 24 hours later, no fix.

Review: We have generally had good service but since a month ago we could not send emails outside of our domain. Their reason was that we were sending spam. Our sales department was sending volume emails to our existing customers and as we have learned the hard and unexplained way, this should be prohibited. Imagine a Company with no corporate email! We can send emails now but are searching for other options for email hosting because after 3 support calls, Hostgator would not solve the issue, only give me recommendations on how to send emails so they would not be labeled SPAM.

Review: Be careful when you sign up with them. There is no follow up for details to get the hosting transferred to their servers. They charged me for 2 hosting packages (which I didn’t need) and when I realised that, I tried to cancel the services within 24 hours. Their CS said they would issue a refund. The refund didn’t come. I had to chase up a second time after disputing payment on PayPal. Despite the first CS agent saying I would get a refund, they have now refused to. And they keep raising prices without informing. It’s an expensive lesson but no more hostGator ever. UPDATE: After this review went live, Lenair from Hostgator's customer outreach emailed offering to help. After providing Lenair with the necessary details, I was finally able to get a full refund - although not before their billing department messed up and only refunded half initially. All good now, thanks to quick followup by Lenair

Review: I’ve been with the company for 20 years. I had an issue with my website an email. They made me buy a VPS plan and guaranteed to get my data back. The communication is horrible. Every time you call someone you have to start over again because you’re too lazy to read the notes.They charge me 200 dollars , it’s been about 20 days and they refuse to refund my money because they say you have to buy over a year commitment to get your money back. They’ve turned into a terrible scam. I’ve had experience with many houses before and these people are just terrible. Highly recommend going with hostinger !

Review: Support Staff are very good. Hosting plans get too expensive over time. Customer loyalty means nothing and the only reduction in price has to begged for. The longer a customer continues with Hostgator, the higher the rates go with no added perks to justify it. Customer websites have to checked often to see if they are not working which does happen.

Review: This is a great host Edited 12-17- well, You can tell how well a company does its work when there's a problem. As it turns out I accidentally mistyped my email address. I have sent ticket after ticket, request after request to have this fixed and days have gone by and they've done nothing. All they do is tell me they'll fix it as soon as possible. I'm going to probably file a chargeback with the bank. Support is where the rubber meets the road I'm changing my review to a one!! you get what you pay for!! This is a great host. I purchased a plan with them and later found out that it didn't include what I needed. When I talked to someone at support and I wanted to cancel the account they were right there no argument no problem no issues. I would highly recommend them for this reason alone. And if I need to come back or create a new web host I will consider these people first.

Review: Every time I reach out to a customer support specialist, I feel the need to preface my query with, "I know you personally didn't implement this change, but..." HostGator provides solid value for the money, however, every year or so they implement changes that make me look for an alternative hosting provider. Most recently, they sunset Softaculous integration for their WordPress installs without notification. The cPanel still has icons and links available for using this service, however, the feature set utilized just disappeared entirely. I spent the better part of a day communicating with Softaculous to determine what had changed, but seemingly overnight this functionality was moved to a different section of the HostGator customer portal entirely.

Review: A few months ago, one of the CSRs changed the IP address of my websites to an outdated IP that stopped receiving updates in October of 2024. When I contacted them about the fact that my website had reverted to a snapshot of a year prior, they told me they could restore the previous year's data from a backup file for a fee. (This would not have actually worked anyway because of what the problem actually was.) After some digging from a software engineer, we discovered that what they'd actually done was point the websites back at an old IP address that had stopped receiving updates in Oct 2024. In doing so, they deprived us of a year's worth of data. After significant time and energy with multiple CSRs, we got the sites pointed back at the right IP and the sites reverted to the current version. Because of these issues (and others), I made the decision to switch web hosts when my websites were up for renewal.

Review: I contracted with HostGator to create a website for my new business. The salesperson was upbeat and supportive until he made the sale, and then never responded to any of my email outreach! The actual process of creating the website was not quite what I was told initially - but that's okay. The real problem is quality control and communications. I received drafts to review that were full of errors and simple formatting issues. I spent hours and hours on the phone and sending detailed notes. I also dealt with agents whom I could not understand or who were ill-equipped to handle the issues. For example, one specific part of the website required a template protocol - it was done completely wrong, and I would have had to update multiple pages separately if I had not caught it myself! On at least three occasions I asked to speak with a manager and they were mysteriously not available!
